Reasons to choose San Casciano

If you are coming from Florence, San Casciano in Val di Pesa,  is the entrance to Chianti.

Set in one of the most beautiful landscapes in Italy, surrounded by acres of vineyards and woods, San Casciano is itself an interesting tourist destination. In the Church of Santa Maria del Gesù, there is an important Museum of Sacred Art where one can admire sculptures, religious vestments and ornaments that come from many churches in the area around the town and the paintings of famous artists of the XIV and XVI centuries.  In San Casciano there are also 2 ancient, stately homes - Villa il Fedino and Villa Borromeo much appreciated for their beautiful architecture, their history and the illustrious guests who have visited them.  The hills surrounding San Casciano never fail to please all tourists with their old churches, castles, renowned wine producers and the local fauna such as squirrels, deer and wild boar.

San Casciano is in the Chianti area, a famous tourist destination in Tuscany.  Places such as Greve, Impruneta, Castellina and Certaldo are only half an hour by car from San Casciano.  It is a 10 Km drive from San Casciano to the A1 Motorway which goes to Florence.  The same roads connect San Casciano to Siena and to other spots such as San Gimignano or Monteriggioni in less than an hour by car.  Ginestra Fiorentina, which is a few kilometres to the north,  has a main road leading to Pisa, the airport and the sea.

For those people who dislike driving in town, there is a bus service which leaves every 35 minutes from San Casciano to Florence. The bus trip takes 40 minutes.
